CTRM Aviation has plans to
buy two Piaggio P180 Avanti II aircraft from Italy-based
Piaggio Aero for US$40 million.
Recognising the P180 as the world’s fastest turboprop aircraft with speeds
of up to 400 knots and a range of just under 1500 nautical miles, CTRM made the selection
after an intensive evaluation process with same sized planes in the market.
CTRM group chief executive officer Datuk Rosdi Mahmud today witnessed the
signing of the letter of intent between the two companies at the on-going
Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA 2011) in Langkawi
"Versatility and reliability
combined with advanced technology have also
made the P180, the ideal aircraft for civil and commercial use," he said in a
statement issued here today.
Meanwhile, Piaggio’s vice president for marketing, sales, business
development and government sales, Paolo Brugiotti said the Piaggio P180 in its
special mission configuration is also used as a multi-utility aircraft in
It is suitable for sensitive and crucial missions such as advanced
multi-engine pilot training flight inspection and air ambulance, he said.
The stand-up cabin, he said, was the biggest in its class of mid-size jets
and twin turboprops by far and provided an airy and comfortable flight for its
passengers aided by its low cabin noise and sea-level pressurisation.
Piaggio Aero was founded in 1874 and has to date, a staff strength of 1500
staff operating out of its facilities in Naples, Italy and Florida in the United
States. -- Bernama
