Langkawi, 3 December 2009: Composites Technology Research Malaysia Sdn Bhd (CTRM) delivers the first RADOME to the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RAMF). This is the first RADOME manufactured, installed and commissioned for RMAF at its radar installation site in Bukit Kubong, Labuan.
According to Datuk Rosdi Mahmud, Chief Executive Officer, CTRM is the only local company able to design, manufacture, install and commission RADOME for the RMAF. RADOME is a sphere shape structure, made up of over 100 individual composites panels used to protect the radar antenna from the damaging environmental elements.
He adds that the second RADOME is currently being installed and assembled at the second radar installation site at Western Hill in Penang.
The contract to design, manufacture, install and commission RADOME was awarded to CTRM in March 2008. The civil works begun on November 2008 and the first panel was installed in Fabruary 2009. By April 2009, the last panel was installed and a total 161 composites panels were installed and assembled together to make up one unit of RADOME.
Testing and commissioning on this RADOME was conducted in November 2009 at bukit Kubong, Labuan.
During the handover ceremony, Y Bhg General Dato’ Sri Rodzali Daud, the RMAF Chief recieves the RADOME from Y Bhg Datuk Rosdi Mahmud. The event was witnessed by YAB Deputy Prime Minister, Tan Sri Dato’ Haji Muhyiddin Yassin.
