THE CONTRACT ANNOUNCEMENT AND THE CONFERMENT OF THE STRATEGIC SUPPLIER AWARD BY GOODRICH CORPORATION TO COMPOSITES TECHNOLOGY RESEARCH MALAYSIA SDN BHD (CTRM)

Goodrich Corporation, a Fortune 500 company, is a global supplier of systems and services to aerospace, defence and homeland security markets. With one of the most strategically diversified portfolios of products in the industry, Goodrich serves a global customer base with significant worldwide manufacturing and service facilities.
 
Composites Technology Research Malaysia Sdn Bhd (CTRM) was incorporated on 20 November 1990 with the Ministry of Finance, Inc. as its principle shareholder. CTRM is entrusted with a strategic role to develop a high technology-based industry in the areas of aerospace and composites. The government identified these two industries as the most crucial constituents to the future industrial growth for Malaysia.

Today, CTRM is part of the composites global supply chain for major commercial and military aircraft manufacturers around the world.  Apart from manufacturing aerospace composites, CTRM also provides engineering design services, composites assemblies, composites research and development, manufacturing of automotive composites structures and manufacturing of defence-related equipment.

CTRM and Goodrich Corporation have signed agreements that establish CTRM as a manufacturing composites centre of excellence, providing nacelle components across multiple commercial airplane programmes that will extend into the next two decades. Under these agreements, CTRM will expand its capabilities to include deliveries of larger, more      complex components and composite assemblies for long-term programmes and further the strategic cooperation between CTRM and Goodrich Aerostructures business unit. CTRM has been a detail component supplier to Goodrich Aerostructures since 2004.

The contracts signed are valued at RM450 million for the next five years. The period of the contracts is to last for the life of the aircraft and CTRM projects the contract value to be at RM3.5 billion.

The Goodrich contract increases CTRM’s current book order of RM 3 billion to approximately RM6.5 billion.  The book order is expected to increase to RM8.5 billion at the end of the year, as CTRM is targeting to conclude more new contracts from various customers within 2009.

As a strategic supplier to Goodrich, CTRM shares a common pursuit of excellence through the disciplined application of the Lean principles of the Toyota Production System and the Goodrich continuous improvement principles. In addition to this, CTRM was also awarded the Strategic Supplier Award by Goodrich for 2009, an award so prestigious that it is given to only a select few of Goodrich’s thousands of suppliers.  The award was presented by Mr. Dan Pleshko, the Chief Supply Chain Officer of Goodrich Corporation.
